Site Superintendent: Norm DeVos

Start Date: May 1, 2012, Estimated Completion Date: Jan 2014

Overview of Project:

This building was described as very unique from Norm DeVos, Site Superintendent of this project. It’s held up by a steel structure with 440 piles into the ground. All suspended slabs are built using the HAMBRO joist system which is a unique system that allows forming to happen without any shoring systems. It can be stripped out 48 hours after pour allowing trades to work underneath the entire time. This is a LEED silver shadow building. There are 2 buildings that are connected with rooftop parking. The new car sales building has 21 service bays and a car elevator!

The main obstacle they had to overcome was the power issue – they were without power for 1 year, they ran the site off of generators during this time. It’s a complete sand site, so a track machine was required to get around sufficiently. Maneuvering around the 440 piles was also a challenge.

Equipment used to make their lives easier were track loadersall terrain scissor lifts1000lb compactors45kva generator,25kva generator plus more and various other small tools.

A&B has been part of the team, especially when dealing with emergencies such as our own equipment breaking down. Replacements were here within the hour and they even serviced our broken tools.” Norm DeVos, Site Superintendent.
